Minion push up cupcakes

Before I share the free printable though, I want to share yellow cake instructions.

Yellow Cake Recipe

Serves: 12 push-up cupcakes Prep Time: Cooking Time:
Nutrition facts: 200 calories 20 grams fat
Rating: 4.7/5
( 3 voted )

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cake flour (and 1/4 cup extra)
  • 1 stick butter - softened (and 1 tbs extra - melted)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs, plus
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tbs vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F.
  2. Brush a little melted butter into mini muffin tins, then sprinkle flour over the top, making sure to get rid of any excess - I hold it upside down over the sink and shake it out.
  3. In a medium-sized bowl combine the cake flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until combined and fluffy. Beat in the eggs and egg yolks gradually, and then add the vanilla.
  5. Add about a cup of dry ingredients to the butter mixture and combine on low speed.
  6. Add in about 1/2 of the buttermilk and combine.
  7. Repeat until all flour and buttermilk have been completely combined.
  8. Pour mixture into mini muffin tins and bake for approximately 15 minutes (or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean).
  9. Once baked, set aside to cool.

While the cupcakes are cooling, make your frosting. I normally make mine according to C&H Powdered Sugar package directions – which is basically a 1lb box of powdered sugar, 1/2 cup softened butter, 1/4 cup milk, and 1 tsp pure vanilla essence. Combine all ingredients, then add Wilton yellow food gel coloring (just a little at a time) until the desired color is reached.

Alternate adding a cupcake and yellow frosting to the plastic push-up cupcake container. You should end up with three layers.  Pipe a little extra yellow frosting onto the top cupcake and top with brown sprinkles.

NOTE: I used the Wilton brand of treat pop containers, see how the lid makes a great stand so they don’t fall over.

Tonya, these are so cute! My youngest has a birthday coming up this fall, may have to try this in place of a regular cake. He’d love it! Thanks so much for sharing on Inspire Me Wednesday. Featuring you in next week’s issue.:)

The beauty of these too is that if kids don’t want to eat cake at the party, they can take it home with them :) … if you are willing to part with your container of course he he.

Those are the cutest things! I always loved push ups when I was a kid, and would have loved them even more if they were this cute! Take care – Dawn

It sounds like you might not have purchased the Wilton brand. They have a square bottom so they stand on their own. There is another brand (I’m honestly not sure who makes them) but they have a rounded bottom. In which case you can purchase a push pop cardboard stand, I have seen them at Michael’s craft stores and you can probably find them online too.

What did you stand them up with?I bought similar push up things but they only have a stick on the end. Need help!

What a fun movie idea! There’s a drive in about an hour away from us. If it’s still open, I would love to do this! We loved the first movie and are looking forward to the second! Hugs, Leena

Leena,
So another blogger used these when she took her kids to the drive-in, but she filled the push up pops with taffy, you should check out some of her other ideas too: http://www.gallamorewest.com/2013/07/despicable-me-2-at-drive-in.html

Hi Amy,

I’m not exactly sure what you mean. There are two wrappers per sheet, so you need to print out as many sheets as you need depending on how many push-up pop containers you have. If you mean how many cupcakes you need to bake, it depends on whether you use a mini muffin pan, or a whoopie pie pan as that will gauge the height of each one, also what you put in-between. If you don’t use much icing in between then you may need 3 mini cakes per push-up pop container, but if you are laying with thicker icing, fruit, or other items, you may only need 2. I hope that helps.

Tonya,

I was wondering how many total the push pop cupcakes make?

Thanks! Amy

Hi, sorry about that. After I read it again, it wasn’t very clear. If I use the mini muffin pan and it makes about 2-3 mini cakes per push pop, how many will that make total for each guest? Does that make more sense? Also, where did you find the push pop containers?

Thanks!!

These are perfect! Thanks so much for sharing this! My boyfriend’s birthday is coming up this Friday and he loves these minions. I was looking for a minion cake recipe and came across this. This is much easier than what I was planning, and I love that it’s portable so we can take them canoeing with us. Fantastic!

Hi Tonya,

Apparently she’s using other templates from other people aside and re-uploaded the album with the despicable me theme party essentials :( I personally don’t know the people (or person) behind the FB page as I have only stumbled upon that page while googling minion stuffs for my nephew’s 3rd Birthday celeb this month.

The FB link to the page is here

We had a Minion birthday party for our 5 year old last week and as super as it was, having your wrappers there would have been truly despicable! My son’s Valentine goodie bags will feature them, wrapped around Twinkies with a “You’re One in a Minion, Valentine” tag. Thanks for the awesome printable – too cute!!!
