This DIY explorer kit for kids including a case and field notes journal is the perfect way to get kids outdoors exploring this summer.

Outdoor explorer kit for kids

Age Range: 6-8
Craft Time: Under 30 min

What you need

  • Plastic tote or pencil case
  • Foam notebook
  • Wood nature cut-outs
  • Elmer’s X-TREME school glue stick
  • Chipboard letters
  • Elmer’s classic glitter glue – blue
  • Elmer’s classic glitter glue – green
  • Paintbrush

Instructions

Follow these instructions to make your outdoor explorer kit for kids. Let them help too.

  1. Attach chipboard letters and wood cut-outs to the case and notebook using Elmer’s X-TREME School Glue.
  2. Using the Elmer’s Classic Glitter Glue in green add some sparkle to the wood cut-outs.
  3. Apply Elmer’s Classic Glitter Glue in green or blue to each of the chipboard letters. Use a
    paintbrush to spread the glue over each letter. Set aside to dry.

What to put into your explorer kit

  • Magnifying glass
  • Crayons and paper for bark rubbings
  • Small Elmer’s glue stick for attaching collections to your field notes
  • Pencil for taking notes
  • Camera (optional) – for taking photographs of what you see
