Protect your whole family against catching a cold or flu this season with these easy tips.

I’m sharing how to prevent the flu this cold and flu season featuring Zep as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #ZepSocialstars

If anyone is going to catch a cold, come down with the flu, or end up in the hospital with a respiratory illness it will be Marisol or I. The teeniest little sniffle and the two of us hunker down, disinfect everything, and lock everyone in their rooms until they feel better again. Okay, maybe I don’t really ‘lock’ the doors, but there are IOU’s for kisses goodnight, holding of one’s breath during hugs, and games of hide and go seek (where people may or may not be left hiding for long periods of time).

This was me a few weeks ago. I can’t even remember now which kid gave me a head thingy, all I know is I felt like death for a few days.

And those dogs in the background didn’t help one bit. I’m all, I’ve got a headache, feel yucky, and want to sleep. They’re all, but the gardener is here, something moved, a dog 10 blocks away barked, a neighbor came home, and stuff happened … bark, bark, bark, bark, BARK.

With four asthmatics in the house, we can’t take any chances of getting colds, especially with Marisol. One thing that I insist on is everyone getting their flu shot every year. Marisol has a strict asthma control plan, medication gets checked and adjusted regularly, and I know every tiny little sign and symptom to look for. The first sign of a runny nose and I’m checking for dark circles under her eyes, flaring nostrils, retractions in her chest, and belly breathing. I should probably stop lifting her shirt every 30 seconds to check for these things though, as she shoves it back down and tells me to leave her the heck alone. However, there have been too many instances of her oxygen levels dropping dramatically over a short period of time and her requiring hospitalization. I’m not going to take the slightest risk with her health.

I’ve had asthma since I was little, but for the most part, it’s under control. Unless you talk to my mother who yelled at me on the phone today (all the way from Australia) because she could hear that my breathing was labored. She demanded I take medication while I was on the phone to her. I’m 42 mum! I’ve got this! Okay, clearly I don’t. In my defense though, yes I have asthma right now, and maybe a touch of a cold, but most of this is because I had a parathyroidectomy (3 parathyroid glands yanked out because they had cysts in them) last week. I still have a lot of swelling in my throat and my body is feeling rather run down. In related news, I have this deep, sexy, husky voice right now … if you ask me that’s what I’ll tell you at leas

How to avoid getting a cold or the flu

Here are some fantastic tips from Zep for finishing out the winter in good health and keeping you and your family protected from the cold and flu.

The CDC recommends** EPA registered, hospital-grade disinfectants, with a label claim for any of several non-enveloped viruses (e.g. norovirus, poliovirus, rhinovirus). The disinfectant should be used following the manufacturer’s instructions on the product label.

  • **Zep Commercial products meeting this guideline include Quick Clean Disinfectant and Antibacterial Disinfectant Cleaner with Lemon.
