Did you know that January is Hot Tea Month? I was raised a tea drinker. In Australia we don’t just enjoy three meals a day, but we add an extra couple in there too … morning and afternoon tea. A time when we gather together for a cup of tea served with biscuits, cake, and other delicious snacks. A time to chat and reconnect. I’m definitely a Bigelow Tea Vanilla Chai kinda girl. It’s a staple in my pantry, and something I look forward to every day.

I find that I also drink a lot of tea based on my needs though too, such as lemon tea with a little honey when my throat is feeling a little scratchy, peppermint tea when I’m traveling, and chamomile tea when I need something a little more calming.

And in light of that, I decided to make a tea travel pouch that I can keep in my handbag. I find myself traveling more and more of late. My partner lives in Kentucky, and I’m in California, so one of us travels every few weeks. And there’s nothing worse than being stuck on a plane, or on a road trip, and craving your favorite tea and not having any with you.

Project time: 30 minutes

What You Need To Make A Felt Pouch For Tea

  • Felt (but the better quality felt that is thicker)
  • Embroidery thread and a needle
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon
  • Your favorite Bigelow Tea

How To Make A Felt Pouch For Tea

Place a bag of your favorite tea on the felt to get the width of your pouch. I found that a strip of felt 8.5 inches long by 3.25 inches wide was the perfect size.

When you fold the felt over the top of the tea bag packet there needs to be extra to create a flap to close the pouch.

Fold over the corners of that excess piece at the top and snip them off. Then your pouch will resemble a tea packet.

Using the embroidery thread, stitch the ribbon into place about 1cm below the opening for the pouch. That will secure the flap into place when the pouch is closed.

Then, sew the sides of your pouch together, and add decorative stitching to the opening of the pouch and the flap.

And there you have it, a super simple pouch that will hold 3-4 packets of tea, making it perfect for traveling.

This travel tea pouch would make the perfect gift for a friend or family member who loves to travel too.

What a great idea for traveling with tea! I’m a Vanilla Chai girl, too. I just love it. 🙂 #client
