My kids absolutely love to have after school and weekend play dates. Now that they are getting older being around their friends is becoming more and more important to them and I am thankful that my kids friends have amazing parents who I've quickly become friends with too, so it's become quite common for us to text each other from the carpool line to say hey I've got your kid in my car, or don't bother coming up today because I'll grab everyone and take them home.
And yesterday was no different. A quick text to a couple of friends during the day and my daughter's friends were over after school for the afternoon. While they did homework, I set up a hot chocolate bar for them, and they had fun playing with toppings, and squirting whipped cream straight into their mouths and eating snacks before heading into the backyard to play for a little while.
A hot chocolate bar doesn't need to be fancy, it just needs to have a few choices, because everyone likes to experiment with flavor combinations, and everyone has different tastes. I wanted this one to be fall inspired, with fresh fall scents, but still keep what I know kids normally love in their hot chocolate.
First of all though let me share my hot chocolate recipe, it's really simple.

We often make smoothies around here. The kids love them, I love them (although I don't make them nearly often enough for myself), but when I do they make me feel like I've pumped myself full of the good stuff for at least one meal.
I've been taking Emergen-C for the past couple of years. I especially feel better taking it during the winter months because my health is important to me. I actually really like the taste on it's own, but here's my problem. I am generally really bad about eating fruit and vegetables at home. I graze, I snack, I'll make bacon and eggs for breakfast before picking up a piece of fruit. I know, I know ... BUT, I decided that if I add the Emergen-C to a smoothie, then I'm doubling up on all the good stuff every day. And it leaves me feeling restored.
So, this smoothie recipe is quick and easy to make, and is packed full of Vitamin C.
I have failed miserably at sending out holiday cards the past couple of years. I haven't had time to hire a photographer, or sit for a session with the kids ... juggling everyone's schedules is impossible between one kids in college and working nights and weekends and the other two heading to their dad's house every other weekend. I know, it's a terrible excuse and I really need to just do it already. But, if you are like me and find yourself scrambling to send out something at the last minute, I'm sharing a great photo editing site over at Busy Mommy Media where professional designers at Krome Studios can take photos you love and give them a new look. And they do it for a low price. We've got a great giveaway happening too.
I absolutely love the holiday season. The celebrating with friends and family, the food, and most importantly, everyone being together. There's nothing like it. No matter how busy you are throughout the year, the holiday's always bring those you love back together again.
So, I've put together a quick and easy seafood recipe for you that is perfect for entertaining.

My life is constantly go, go, go. Some weeks I feel like I barely stop moving. Between working full-time, being a single full-time parent to three kids, running a household, volunteering, appointments, activities, play dates, the seemingly endless list of errands and chores that need to be done, and squeezing in some fun and exploring.
So weekends are for farmer's markets, fresh produce and flowers, and meal planning for the week. I absolutely love the slower pace of wandering around the weekend market, walking the dog throughout the neighborhood, exploring a new place, and filling my home with fresh foods and flowers. There's something about it that brings calm and contentment, especially after a crazy week.
So this is a pretty standard look for me.
For the most part I live in jeans, a top, and comfy shoes.
