Finally. I’ve been home for days, but I’m so exhausted. Still.
My flight and arrival:
Thanks to hubby, this blogger got to fly first class to Chi-town. Oh yes she did. First ever first class trip. And. It. Was. AWESOME! Thank you American Airlines for the early morning pancakes and champagne and to hubby for swinging through Starbucks on our way to the airport for a much needed coffee. They totally got my extremely early start off on the right foot.
My feet flying first class
Upon arriving into Chicago I collected my bags and called the limousine service that I had reserved the day before. They were offering a discounted rate for BlogHer attendees which was going to be fairly equivalent to getting a cab. I should have gotten the cab. The limousine service was the WORST I have encountered in my entire life. They suckity suck suck sucked.
I called as I was waiting for my bags. I was asked to call back once I had them. I called once I had them … all of 5 minutes later. I was told they would call back in 5 minutes once another passenger had arrived. 20 minutes later I hadn’t heard from them so I called again. Repeatedly. I kept getting an answering service. I noticed 2 other ladies (Erin Manning – as in host of HGTV and DIY Network’s TV series The Whole Picture and Jenny of Tales of an unfinished mom) waiting for a limousine service too so I braved it and introduced myself assuming they were going to BlogHer too. They were and by chance were waiting for the same limousine service and the same car as me to collect them too. After waiting for 40 minutes and getting the run around on the phone we were getting a little peeved. Okay, I was getting a lot peeved. The driver told us he was there. Dude, unless I’ve gone blind in the past 40 minutes you are not here. I am here. You are not. I actually told him this. 2 of his colleagues turned up. I yelled at the guy on the phone. No, really. I yelled. Like at the top of my voice. My Aussie irate accent carried throughout the airport. Thankfully some other bloggers were being picked up by one of the 2 colleagues who had turned up and they let us squish into their car.
There was a thunderstorm as we drove to the hotel
Then we get to the hotel and most of us are paying the driver . I hand him my credit card. He can’t find it. He claims I didn’t give it to him. Umm, dude, when you were pulling the bags out of the car I handed it to you. You were holding it. I asked him to check his pockets. Low and behold, there was MY credit card in his pants pocket. WTH? Was this dude for real. I nearly flipped. Leaving the hotel I took a cab to the airport.
The Thursday night parties:
So thanks to them I missed a couple of parties (Manic Mommies and Mom Central) that I’d RSVP’d to. I wasn’t happy. At all. Thankfully I was able to swing by and say a very quick hello to the Mom Central gals before they left. I was also late arriving to the SocialLuxe party. One of the parties that I desperately wanted to arrive to at a decent hour because of the fabulous women hosting it. Not to forget keeping my room-mate waiting.
The SocialLuxe party was amazing though … from what I saw of the whole 45 minutes or so that I spent at it. I don’t have many photos but you can check out their flickr photo stream. The amazing Hostess with the Mostess did a fabulous job decorating … of course. These girls sure know how to throw an amazing party.
Meeting Jyl of Mom-It-Forward
One Hope Wine. I came home with a bottle. Please visit their website.
Beautiful vases of bling decorated the room
Oh and I almost forgot to tell you that President Obama was at the Hyatt. While we were there. We didn’t get to see him though. Just all of his security.
After leaving the Hyatt Mel and I freshened up and changed for the People’s Party. What a great time we had. We met so many amazing women and I caught up with some friends.
From there the 3 amigo’s (above) headed off for dinner to a lovely little place across the road from The Sheraton. To say we were S.T.A.R.V.I.N.G. was an understatement. Kinda glad we left the building though. We hear the grabbing for swag at the room 704 party was a little insane. Something about vibrating bags. Not sure how true that is seeing as I didn’t see them. Thankfully we arrived fashionably late. Although I am curious about those bags ….
