Kids are going to love this potato stamping art project. Use potatoes of various sizes to stamp penguins on shirts that they can wear.

Note: This craft project was initially created for the website Kidzui, however, that website has been taken offline, so I moved my content over here.

We’ve been having a whole lot of penguin fun, and playing with our food again. You should check out our fun penguin lunch too.

Happy Feet 2 comes out tomorrow. The kids are super excited to go and see it. I thought it was a great excuse to make a fun potato stamped shirt with them that they can wear to the movie theater.

Supplies

  • Plain white shirts
  • Potatoes – small, medium, and large
  • Fabric paint – let the kids pick the colors for their penguin
  • Paintbrush
  • Paper towel
  • Paper bowls

Instructions

Cut your potatoes in half lengthwise. Pat the inside of the potato dry with a paper towel.

Pour a little paint (in your two main colors) into a paper bowl. Dip each potato starting with the largest first into paint and stamp onto the shirt to form the body, belly, and then the wings of the penguin.

Using a paintbrush, add the beak, eyes, and feet.

Set your potato stamped shirts aside to dry.
