An Art Project for Kids Using Yarn Scraps

Don’t throw away your yarn scraps, paper scraps, or any other crafting scraps. Put them into containers for kids to make scrap crafts.

I’m a crafter who plans ahead and rarely crafts with the kids just for the sake of it. I also don’t throw away scraps of anything, including yarn, fabric, felt, and paper. There are containers full of craft scraps that need to be used up every so often before they take over my craft room. Sometimes it’s nice for the kids to just be able to dive headfirst into a pile of scraps and create their own masterpiece without me taking over too.

Note: This craft project was initially created for a website by the name of Kidzui, however, that website is no longer online.

Supplies

Yarn, paper, and fabric scraps stored in containers for kids to make scrap crafts.
  • Yarn scraps
  • Felt scraps
  • Paper scraps
  • Pipecleaner scraps
  • Glue
  • Paper
  • Scissors

Instructions

The kids started with the snail to make their project. Make a swirl of glue on the paper and then carefully wind the yarn scraps over the top to make a snail shell.

Repeat this step to create the earth, flower, and sun until you have a fabulous piece of art.

Scrap crafts are the perfect way for kids to unleash their creativity while having fun and using up some of those scrap supplies.

Whenever you cut off the ends of yarn or paper, just pop them into a big tub, containers, or Ziploc bags, and let the kids use those to create their own works of art.
