The best round-up of LEGO themed gifts for kids who are always on the go and families who travel.

If you are a family who travels and has kids who love LEGO (like mine) and all they want for their birthday and Christmas is LEGO, then sometimes you feel the need (or maybe that’s just me) to get a little creative with gift giving.

Just like with their birthday, all the twins’ want for Christmas is LEGO.  Which isn’t a bad thing, of course, I think building, role-playing with the characters and scenes, and learning to read and follow instructions are very important, but I want them to explore other things too, so one of the gifts they will be getting this year (thank you grandparents in Australia) is a LEGO Travel Gift Pack.  I’ve been scouring the internet and stores for the perfect items to include, and although they won’t be getting everything on this list, these are some of the things I found that I thought your little LEGO lover might want too.

Best lego travel items for kids

Lego Backpack: Perfect for holding all of their LEGO games, activities, and snacks whether on the road or in the air.

Lego Lunch Box, Drinking Bottle, and Utensil Set: I love that the utensil set is stackable, which means it will stay contained in the lunch box, are perfect for kids who want to eat snacks on the road (they may not be allowed in the air so it’s best to check with your airline first). Place smaller containers of snacks inside the lunch box, turn it into a fun Bento-style box, or fill it with small Ziploc bags of snacks such as apple slices, crackers, and cheese cubes.

Life of George: This is one of the items that the kids are definitely getting in their travel pack.  Not only does it come with LEGO pieces and a mat, but you download the iPhone game to build creations and play the game.

LEGO Activities: When you want the kids to have some screen-free time it’s important to have other things at the ready to keep them occupied whether you are on a road trip or flying.  I love the notepad with pencils, erasers and a sharpener, it’s perfect for kids who want to keep a diary of their travels.  Sticker Storybooks are also great for keeping those little fingers and minds busy.  Of course, stories to read that are age appropriate are great too.  Feel free to take along a book that you can read too, but if you have children who can read then specifically look for the Scholastic reader books and a level that is appropriate for your child.  Having books about things they might see or do on their trip would be perfect too.

LEGO Games:  Whether you are staying in a tent, or in a hotel, there is bound to be downtime and kids can become bored very quickly.  LEGO games are a great way to keep kids entertained, we already have a number of these at home.  The kids love to build the games before we play.  I also love the LEGO Tic-Tac-Toe sets, they are perfect for road trips and plane flights.

Late Night Lights:  Whether exploring outdoors after dark, or reading under the covers kids will love the LEGO headlamp.

If you are extra lucky you may even be able to get your hands on one of these LEGO multi-game packs. Warning though, they are hard to come by.

Do you have a LEGO lover too?  What’s on top of their wishlist this year?

Our little nomads love Legos, especially for travel time in the van! We made these cool little travel cases to take Legos in the car – they have a carry case and a building platform all in one!
