Can you believe that I had never carved a real pumpkin before today?
It's one of those things that I meant to do each autumn with the kids.
Each year we go to the pumpkin patch and choose our pumpkins, but then carving was put in the 'there are not enough hours in the day' basket. Instead, I'd end up making soup out them.
This year though I was determined to not only carve a pumpkin myself but also teach the kids to carve them too, so when my friends at Good Cook offered to send me their Sweet Creations Pumpkin Carving Kit I jumped at the chance. I figured at least this would make our first attempt a little easier, and maybe next year we could branch out and come up with our own designs.
The photograph above is of my pumpkin. I didn't even notice that the eyes were different until I looked at the photograph. Oops.
The kids loved the multi-colored lights we put underneath.
There is a little wheel tool in the kit that you run over the lines of the stencil to make the imprint of the stencil in the pumpkin. She found it a little difficult to use at first until she discovered she could just poke it into the pumpkin over the stencil instead of rolling it, she found that method to be much easier.
