The thing I love most about the holidays is the traditions I have with the kids. Some are reminiscent of when I was little, others I started over the years. Each year I try to introduce something new, I think it makes every holiday that much more special if it's not exactly the same year after year.
One of our favorite traditions (and by ours, I mean mine and Marisol's) is crafting together. We always make something new to add to our Christmas decor, I teach her something new and we get to spend time together.
This year we are working on a few fun Christmas crafts (I've shared a few, and there are more to come), but she also learned a new one at school recently, paper snowflakes, and has been obsessed with making them at home. She's made quite a collection of them which we will be hanging together this week.
Even the man of the house got in on the action ... okay, it actually turned into a little friendly competition to see who could make the best snowflakes.
As Marisol was making hers we got to chatting about paper snowflakes and she told me that she couldn't remember having made them before. I reminded her of our Polar Express movie night a few years ago where we made paper snowflakes, hung them from the ceiling in the family room and watched The Polar Express movie together while drinking hot chocolate. It's times like this that I'm so glad I started this blog. Over the years the kids will forget some of the wonderful things we've done together, but through writing my stories and sharing pictures here they will always have a way to look back at the fun we've had.
And as she gets older I'm amazed at just how quickly things change. The last time we made these I needed to help with the cutting and folding. And now, she doesn't need my help at all.
Time flies so quickly, and I'm so grateful that I'm here every day to see them grow and change and learn new things.
