Operation Shower is a non-profit organization that produces and co-ordinates baby showers for pregnant military personnel and their families. As a military wife I think that this is an absolutely fabulous idea.
Please contact Amy if you are a vendor and can contribute in some way to these showers.
Thank you Amy.
This was no ordinary baby shower. This was for a very dear friend who is expecting twins via a surrogate. After tossing around a few themes with a friend I settled on baby birds. I didn't want the theme of this party to focus on pregnancy, but instead to focus on what our dear friends are waiting for - to meet their babies for the first time ... much like a mummy bird waits for her baby birds to hatch from their eggs. Our friends have chosen the names so we incorporated the initials onto little birdhouses in front of each place setting and onto the jelly beans eggs sitting on each cupcake.
Clockwise from top:
1. The table setting complete with china plates, champagne glasses, fresh plants and assorted birdhouses. Above the table we hung large Martha Stewart pom poms.
2. Blueberry and custard tarts: Mini filo shells filled with custard and topped with 2 blueberries and grated chocolate.
3. A tiny birdhouse with the initial of each baby in front of place settings.
4. Blue bird cookies - thank you to Edelweiss Bakery for making these. If you live in the San Diego area, you should really try them. Their cookies are fantastic and if you take in a cookie cutter they will custom make cookies for you.
5. Cupcakes: carrot cake topped with cream cheese icing, coconut mixed with blue food dye and top are perched a mummy bird watching over her little eggs.
6. Assorted birdhouses, birds and nests were placed on the dining table.
7. Another larger birdhouse on the dessert table.
N.B. A big thank you to my dear friend Heather for offering her house to host the baby shower and to Heather's mother who provided all of the birdhouses and helped Heather and I to set up in the morning. Also to the wonderful women who watched, fed and entertained all of the children outside so that we could enjoy a beautiful sit down champagne lunch, as adults.

If you are hosting a baby shower, you must check out Grow In Style. Not only do they sell the most amazing organic diaper cakes which are perfect as a gift or a centerpiece, but they also have organic gifts sets and toys as well. They offer loads of Green Baby Shower ideas, such as giving a packet of plant or flower seeds to guests to grow a plant in the baby's honor.
Their teethers are BPA free and the toys and blankets are organic.
You may begin to realise that I just love cupcakes for parties. It's not to say that I won't have large fancy cakes made too, but I find it so much easier to have cupcakes made. They are easy to store and to hand out and you can get assorted flavors depending on your guests tastes. Too many people purchase chocolate cakes and come to find out that there is somebody at their party who can't eat chocolate. I always feel dreadful if I haven't catered to everyone attending.
These are cupcakes I took to a friends Baby Shower. The color scheme was blue, green and yellow and we knew she was having a boy so this is what I had my favorite bakery VG Donut & Bakery put together for me. They looked so pretty positioned on a cupcake tree in the center of the table.
Here are a couple of other little things I took along too:
Aren't these the most adorable cookies. I didn't have time to make them myself so I purchased a duck-shaped cookie cutter, took it to a bakery that I use for all of my cookies Edelweiss Bakery, told them what I wanted and they made these cuties up for me.
A sweet little bowl of pale blue M&M's. Who doesn't love a little chocolate treat at a party? I didn't have these ones personalized but just so you know you can have M&M's personalized and in any color you like, just click here to go to the My M&M's page
I have noticed too that these days it is becoming quite popular to have a post baby party as opposed to a baby shower before the impending arrival so these ideas would be perfect if you are planning one of those too .. you could even have the M&M's personalized with the babies name.
