Last week, a blogging group I am a member of, the SoCal Lady Bloggers arranged a crafting day at The Makery. This was my first time there, but I had heard such wonderful things and was so excited to be spending a day crafting with old and new friends.

So, we crafted with:

The lovely ladies from each business taught us a new craft.

I began with making a color-blocked wood bead necklace with The Makery.

Tips:

  • wrap Washi tape around a stirrer so that the bead fits onto it without moving around.
  • use another piece of Washi tape to wrap around the bead to paint a straight line for color-blocking
  • apply a coat of Mod Podge over each bead once the paint is dry.

The second craft I made was newspaper gift bags with the Academy of Handmade.

Aren't they fabulous! I think I need to make a lot more of these … and possibly subsribe to the local newspaper.

The final crafting station for the day was learning a little origami with A Little Known Craft.

First up we made an adorable little gift box with a bow out of magazine pages.

And then, we made collared shirts.

I hope I remember how to make them. The little shirts would be great for Father's Day to attach to a blank card.

If you live in Southern California I hope you'll take a look at the classes, workshops and events offered by each of these fabulous crafting businesses.

I have to show you this gorgeous storage area at The Makery.

Oh, how I want this in my office.

Disclosure: We were provided with a day of crafty fun with thanks to The Makery, A Lil Known Craft and the Academy of Handmade.
