You’ll find my tips for getting ready for holiday entertaining in the December issue of Real Simple magazine.

Disclosure: I was compensated for my time and travel expenses were provided by Real Simple magazine.

I've been keeping a little something from you.

I was contacted by Real Simple magazine a little while ago to do a photo shoot in New York with Olay for an upcoming article. To say I was giddy is an understatement. I mean this is Olay and Real Simple! I purchase very few magazines, but when I do it's almost always Real Simple or Sunset … or both, because well, they are fabulous.

Before I share a little about the photo shoot, I want to show you some fabulous dresses. You see I absolutely love lace, it's timeless, it's feminine and it's perfect for day or evening. And yes, I may have even been wearing one of these dresses for the shoot (and it may have even came home with my in my suitcase), but you'll have to wait to find out which one. I cannot wait for you to see my hair and makeup too (now if only I could replicate it at home).

I'm not what one would call a natural in front of the camera. I am generally the person behind the lens so I was a little nervous, but I'm trying desperately to embrace this new, (forties and fabulous) happier me.

I don't want to give too much away about the article, I will definitely share it once it's out. I can share a few things though. Like a behind-the-scenes look at the photo shoot.

Real Simple and Olay photo shoot

It was a busy day. Between wardrobe, hair and makeup, then individual shots and a group shot.

And there are things I learned along the way:

  • Get a spray tan BEFORE a photo shoot, thank goodness for black and white shots.
  • Have some willpower when the food comes out … twice … because I'm pretty sure eating two helpings of lunch and apple pie right before your photo shoot doesn't make for a flat belly (which I don't have on a good day).
  • Don't eat chocolate croissants right after getting your makeup done.
  • Keep it PG … apparently my hips have a mind of their own on occasion.

The photo shoot took place at the Time Inc. studio and we had a fabulous team working with us. And by 'us', I mean the other two bloggers I was with, Grace Atwood and Diva Debbi.

I'd like to send out a big thank you to Real Simple for putting me up at the Mondrian SoHo for a couple of nights, it was fabulous.

Mondrian SoHo

The sunset and city lights from my room were amazing. The staff are fabulous, and the breakfast, especially the homemade granola and Greek yogurt were delicious.

I even managed to catch up with my lovely friend Victoria Pericon on my last evening in town. This lady is my rock.  We had a lovely (and very unhealthy for me) dinner at Alice's Tea Cup and then headed to the Sprinkles ATM for dessert … because apparently having two chocolate chip scones and a chai and vodka cocktail were not enough for me … you know after the two helpings of lunch, chocolate croissant and apple pie.

I love you and I’m always thrilled when I have a chance to be your dessert enabler. Next time… on the West Coast. xo
