I'm hiding out at home today. I'm catching up on a few craft projects and cleaning. Sometimes you just need to do that. Having fun seems to take over during the summer while the kids are home. I think it's a combination of not wanting to hear those dreaded words, 'I'm bored mum', and wanting to soak up as much of the summer sun as possible. Then you realize there are no clean clothes, the dishes are still piled up in the sink, and you can barely walk through the door without tripping over something.
We've been heading to the beach a bit this summer. If I could live in a house with a view of the ocean I would be the happiest girl. There's something about the ocean that is so calming for me.
The kids have been having such a great summer outdoors, that they've actually looked forward to having the rare day at home where they can build forts and LEGO, watch movies, and swim in the pool.
La Jolla Cove
Don't forget to take a walk around the park to the Children's Pool to view the seals up close. There's a narrow boardwalk that will take you around the other side where you'll be able to view them a little closer.
We headed up to Long Beach one day to watch the FIVB World Series Beach Volleyball Tournament.
La Jolla Shores
It has been a while since we've ventured to La Jolla Shores. It can get quite crowded there, but it's a great beach for kids seeing as there's a playground and bathrooms, but I recommend getting there early.
Jay had decided he wanted to get his scuba diving certification over summer vacation, so I enrolled him with Pacific Beach Sports. After all of the practical work had been finished and he'd done some pool work, they did a couple of ocean dives, so on one of those mornings I took the kids down there too for a play.
This is one of our favorite spots to meet up with friends for a beach play date. It's never crowded when we go, there are no waves, a playground right on the sand, and bathrooms nearby.
Del Mar Beach
Del Mar Beach has become a fast favorite of ours since playing there for the first time back in April. I'm not sure if I even shared photos back then, so let me show you just a couple.
Powerhouse Park is located on the hill above the beach. There's a great little playground for kids, and just look at that view from the swings. I couldn't get the little man off them for the longest time … until he realized that the trains run right past the playground frequently.
He does love playing in the sand though too.
If you are looking for a great place to grab a pizza in the area, I highly recommend Del Mar Pizza. It's on 15th Street and the pizza is really good, plus it's walking distance to the beach and Powerhouse Park.
I hope you've all been having a wonderful summer too.
