Knit Goldfish

You know those little gold fish that are one of the most addictive things EVER.  Well here's a slightly less addictive variety .. unless of course you are a two year old little girl who insists that these are hers and hers alone and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL ANYBODY TOUCH HER FISH … yeah Flynn we're looking at you.

What you need:

• yarn
• size 4 knitting needles
• tapestry needle
• toy stuffing

How to make:

Cast on 20 stitches

Rows 1-22 – stocking stitch (knit first row, purl next row and repeat)

Row 23 – Knit 2 together, repeat to end

Leave a long length of yarn and thread through the tapestry needle.  Gather up remaining stitches and fasten securely.

Sew from the gathered section down to the end of the middle seam. 

Stuff the fish then sew the base (tail) together. 

Wind a piece of yarn about 1 inch from the tail around the middle and using a couple of stitches along the seam fasten securely.

Make a couple of stitches in the middle of the section where you just wound the yarn.  Now, make a large stitch over the top of the center of the tail and pull firmly – this shapes the tail.  Securely fasten by adding another couple of stitches.

Make another couple of stitches to form the eye, pushing the needle through each side of the fish and pulling the thread tight.

To make a container to store your fish:

You will need: 

• container (I used a Chai latte one)
• scissors
• felt
• glue
• computer – to print photos of the fish you made

To make:

Measure the dimensions of the container and cut felt accordingly.  Glue onto container.

Print a few photos of the fish you made and using mod podge attach them to the felt.  Put a thin layer over the top as well, making sure it goes just over the edge of each fish- you want to keep the felt as soft as possible so try not to get too much mod podge on it if possible.
