An here is a little of what we did today to celebrate Earth Day.
TEDDY BEAR PAINTING
I picked up these adorable EarthRite teddy bears from CVS yesterday for $1.99 each. What a bargain. The bears are made from the conversion of recycled (PET) plastic bottles into new polyester. I thought they would make a great Earth Day activity for the twins. I put out some fabric paints and armed the twins with paintbrushes and away they went. Painting their own teddy bears.
PLANTING SEEDS
While I had newspaper on the table it was a great time to get out the gardening kits Easter bunny had brought for the twins. They had a great time sprinkling too many seeds in each pot and watering their little pots to the point of seeds splashing over the side but they loved it. Their little greenhouses are sitting on the kitchen window and weāll wait and see if anything grows ā which may happen if I actually remember to water them occasionally ha ha. Flynn planted seeds for cucumbers and carrots and Marisol planted seeds for Zinnia and Cupidās Heart flowers.

Awesome Earth Day activities… as usually you are such a role model for us all!!!All I did was mow my lawn, trim my hedges and seed the lawn…. does any of that count as Earth Day activities? I was being kind to the earth! LOLKate
Okay – so we just went through our house and replaced all our light bulbs with the ones that are supposed to save money and be good for the environment – does that count?

We planted seeds today too! Carrots, cucumbers, poppies, black-eyed susans (they were the same kits that you had there for your kids, thanks for the tip on where to get those!). Oh, and tomorrow is Wills b-day and I sent him a plant kit (from Uncommon Goods) that comes with a 100% biodegradable container š
Um, we compost, recycle, changed all our globes, the kids bath together, we bought a front load washer, I use ‘green bags’. I buy ib bulk and save on packaging..is that enough?..lolI follow and I have you on my blog roll (does that count?) and I have your button on my blog..lol (do I get extra brownie points?)lol
We collect all the shovels and pails left by beachgoers before we go home in the evening. Saves alot of plastic from being swept out to sea!
I like the above idea of picking up the leftover plastic toys off the beach……Good one!We use canvas bags (I have some from 1993 that my mom gave me so we have done this for a long time) at any store we go to (the mall, groceries, etc etc) and we found HUGE reusable bags at Ikea for 59 cents that are great for Costco; I charge my cell in my car instead of at home, we have all of our electronics on power strips and shut them all off at night or during the day when we are not using them; we use cloth diapers; we recycle and try to buy items with less packaging (like bulk, not single servings); I reuse the plastic bags our veggies come in from our CSA at the grocery store instead of using new ones for fruits and veggies; We make our own household cleaners and use reusable spray bottles and pint jars…..Great post, and I like your ideas and suggestions…what a great resource. I know you weren’t looking for all these things, but since the beach idea was inspirational I thought I’d throw out things we do in the hopes of giving ideas…. š
i love the bears, they turned out really darling!
We use the energy efficient light bulbs, rarely have lights on, keep our heat low and our A/C high. š
