Using positive reinforcement and having our kids (or should I say one child in particular … yes, you know the one I mean) start and end each day in the best possible way is high on my list of priorities. We’ve used rewards systems for a few years.

Normally the requested items are building toys or anything to do with video games. Skylanders which pretty much covers both of those loves. This is a fairly new thing for him. His 9-year-old cousin in Australia collects the characters for his Nintendo Wii and of course what the cool big cousin has, he wants too. You might remember we just spent a month there on vacation for the holidays so these boys spent a lot of time bonding, sharing, and playing together.

Let me share with you our latest rewards chart. We make adjustments as he gets older to accommodate new chores we ask him to take on. Also, any other problems that we feel have arisen during his normal day-to-day activities.

I made this reward chart using a plain white magnet board that I found at Walmart (under $10) and a sheet of Expressions Vinyl (which has a sticky backing to adhere to the board). The printable reward chart was printed onto sticker paper to attach to the front. I made custom magnets too, which you’ll find a tutorial for down below.

If you want to download my reward chart, click on the image below for the free printable.  I used PicMonkey to create it which is really easy and fun to use if you want to make your own and modify it for your own child.

How to make reward chart magnets

Making your own magnets allows the child to choose what they want at the end of their great week (or month, depending on how you do your chart).

I made fairly generic Skylanders magnets. All you need is a roll of ProMAG, which is an adhesive magnet sheet. Place a sticker or image of what your child wants over the top and cut it out. Your child can move it across the reward chart as they complete each task.

Toys don’t have to be an expensive reward, as long as it’s something that your child absolutely loves.

Where to buy Skylanders Mega Bloks

Walmart stock an exclusive range of Skylanders toys. You can view some of the Mega Bloks collection here and the full range of Skylanders toys here. The Skylanders Mega Bloks can be found in the construction aisle in the toy department.

Make sure you look for the Skylanders Universe Ultimate Box Set too, it’s fantastic, it has a chapter book (pictured below) which is perfect for him to cross that 20 minutes of reading off his reward chart, there are also activity books, stickers (which I used for the reward chart) and a poster.
