This purple Evil Minion piñata and matching yellow Minion candy bags are the perfect addition to your Despicable Me party.

Disclosure: This Despicable Me 2 party post was sponsored by Universal Pictures.

Last week I posted a Despicable Me 2 Party table and promised I would return each week with a tutorial until Despicable Me 2 is released on July 3. This week I’m showing you how to make an Evil Minion piñata and Minion candy bags.

Supplies

  • Cardboard – either a large box, or Elmer’s tri-fold board (which is what I used)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Pencil
  • X-ACTO knife
  • Paint – purple and black
  • Cardstock – silver and brown (also white if the silver is not white on the reverse side)
  • Black Sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Purple fur – I purchased purple fur leg warmers at Party City which were the perfect size, (I have seen them available at other places on-line too)

Instructions

Begin by sketching the main body and leg shape onto your piece of card. Using your X-ACTO knife cut it out and use it as a template to make an identical cardboard body. Cut strips of cardboard approximately 3″ wide.

Using the hot glue gun attach the long pieces to the front and back of the body. Normally I would tape these together, but seeing as I was painting the cardboard and not using crepe streamers I didn’t want the tape marks to show. Cut a small section out of the top, don’t cut the flap completely off though. This will be how you add candy to the piñata.

Next, paint your piñata purple.

Using a pencil sketch the outline for the overalls and then fill in with black paint.

Instructions for making a purple evil minion pinata.

Cut goggles out of the silver card stock. If the silver card is white on the reverse side, you can flip the round eye once it’s cut out (see below). Cut a small brown circle for the center of each eye, and then use a black Sharpie to fill in the pupil and side of the goggles. Use glue to attach all pieces to the piñata.

Cut a set of teeth out of white card stock and glue down. Use the black Sharpie to add the details of the mouth.

Make sure you paint all lines for the overalls and goggles around the sides and back of the piñata too.

Fill your piñata with candy, and then use a zip tie to secure the opening. This will also be used to attach a rope for hanging your piñata up.

The last step is to attach the hair. The legwarmer I used was a little narrow to fit over the piñata, so I pulled and stretched the side with elastic until some of the stitching broke. I then secured the fur in place with hot glue and let it naturally fall where it wanted.

Attach a rope and hang your Purple Evil Minion piñata outside.

Let’s not forget cute bags for collecting candy too.

Follow the piñata steps above for making the goggles and eyes. Attach all pieces with glue and use the black Sharpie to add on the extra features.
