WEEKLY WINNERS

We were going to go swimming today.

It was too cold.

So instead I rugged up the kids and took them on a hike at the Iris Sankey Arboretum and to check out Queen Califia’s Magical Circle Garden in Kit Carson Park located in Escondido.

Kit Carson park is huge.  I had driven past it a number of times on my way to the Wild Animal Park, but had never once paid any attention to it being anything other than a sports complex.  There are picnic areas everywhere of which we saw no less than a dozen parties happening on our drive through the park.   There are bridges, a creek and ponds, a couple of playgrounds and a sports complex, as well as hiking trails, a 5-acre arboretum and the sculpture garden.

Queen Califia’s Magical Circle is a sculpture garden by Niki De Saint Phalle. It is absolutely amazing.  It took nearly 4 years to plan and execute and then had to be finished after the artist died at the age of 71.  Each mosaic sculpture has the most elaborate detail.  It truly is something to see.

  2. Wow, thanks for the tip! Escondido is a bit of a drive for us, but the park you linked to certainly looks like it is well worth the effort =) I can’t wait to check it out, so thank you!
