Normally we go hiking on the weekend, but today the little man had a request. He NEEDED to go to the beach. After an hour of searching the world wide web, I came across a great beach walk from New Brighton State Beach to Seacliff State Beach. It's a 3 mile round trip and quite a pretty walk. There are fabulous beach houses right there on the beach, which I could only look longingly at, lots of shells on the sand, and loads of people watching (one of my favorite past-times).
A few moments after we commenced our walk we noticed a stairwell leading up a cliff so we decided to set off and explore. It took us to a really great campground. We found the perfect spot to go camping later in the year … yes, my friends have just fallen off their chairs, this non-camper, is actually planning a camping trip. We wandered the perimeter of the campground and then came upon a short trail leading back to the car park that we had started from. We noticed a few people wandering down a trail on the other side of the car park so set off to see where that lead to. Turns out, it took us straight up to the train tracks. Flynn was in heaven. We walked along them for a little bit and came upon another walking trail that wound its way along the cliffs. We found a little bench to stop and have lunch with a beautiful view over the ocean and people playing on the sand below and then after walking on a little further turned back around and headed down to the beach to start the walk we had intended on doing.
We made it the 1.5 miles down the beach to Seacliff State Beach and the pier (we had actually walked 4.4 miles total by this time) but the kids were looking a little tired and desperately wanted to play in the sand so I sent Randy and Jay back for the car and the kids beach gear. It was a beautiful day to sit and relax on the sand while the kids played in the water and built sand castles.
After our fabulous day in the sun we headed to Phil's Fish Market for dinner. I can see why it gets rave reviews. It doesn't look like much, but the food is delicious. They also have a patio where we could dine and have the pooch with us.
