Wings are a staple around here when watching sports … actually, they are on the menu regularly seeing as two of my kids love them as well, especially if they are spicy, or made with our favorite boysenberry barbecue sauce that we buy from one of our favorite Southern California theme parks.

It’s really easy to make great wings, just don’t take any shortcuts … I say as I use a jar of pre-made sauce.

What You Need To Bake Barbecue Wings

  • wings
  • sauce

That’s it! Just two things. Of course you can make a homemade sauce, and I often do if I’m making gourmet wings, but if I’m make game day style wings, then I’m more than happy to use a jar of our favorite sauce.

How To Bake Barbecue Wings

The first thing you are going to do is cut your wings if you purchased them whole (which I often do).  Using sharp kitchen shears cut off the wing tip, and then separate the drumette from the wingette.  You can throw away the wing tips.

Put your wings in a large bag, pour most of the sauce in (leaving some for basting and dipping), and then seal the bag and refrigerate overnight.

Now, let’s start cooking!

Preheat your oven to 425F.

Line a baking tray with aluminum foil, and then place a wire rack on top.

Lay each of your drumettes and wingettes on the wire rack, make sure they aren’t touching and are bottom side up (so skin down). Bake for 20 minutes, and then turn them over and bake for a further 18 minutes.

Baste the skin of each piece with more sauce, and then pop under a broiler (on high) for about 3 minutes. This will caramelize the sauce a little making your wings nice and sticky.

That’s it! See how easy it is?

And don’t forget the paper towels, because messy wings require Bounty Select-A-Size Super Rolls.
