I’ve been a room mom and classroom helper for about 15 years. 15 YEARS! My oldest son is in college, and my youngest two just graduated from elementary school and are heading into middle school after summer break. Grading papers, photocopying, stuffing take-home folders, and tallying up hours for reading logs has never been much fun, but getting to ride the bus to all the field trips, and helping out at all the class parties has certainly been worth it.
With school on the horizon, it’s time to start thinking about back-to-school supplies, and what the classroom might need this coming year. The kit I’ve put together costs under $30 (including the box) and has enough supplies for one party, with a few supplies left over to go towards the next one, because packets of napkins, plates, etc. don’t come in the exact amount you need for each student in the class.
I found this great box at my local craft store for under $10 and then used a 40% off coupon to get a discount. You can use any kind of box you want though. I chose a wood box so I could paint it with chalkboard paint and tie a chalk pencil to it so that the birthday child’s name or the next holiday could be written on the box. The parent can pop extra supplies inside before the day, and those setting up will have everything on hand that they need for quick and easy setup.
Once the box is painted and the chalk pencil tied on, fill it with much-needed party supplies such as:
