Are you decorating for Autumn? Let us show you how to make paper flowers at home. You can use these to make a DIY wreath for under $10 to hang on your front door.

It’s officially autumn, and if you are decorating, then you will love this simple paper fall wreath. It’s perfect for hanging on the door, on a wall, or above the fireplace. The best part is, that it’s more of a transitional piece, so if you happen to leave things up longer than the season or holiday, it’s okay. I’ve been known to take things down months after they probably should have been.

It still feels like summer here in California, but I’m determined to get into the fall spirit, even if it means just looking at fall colors indoors.

How to make paper flowers for a wreath

You can make this wreath as busy, or as simple as you like. I just wanted to add a small accent of flowers to one section, but feel free to go crazy and cover your entire wreath in pretty paper blooms.

Supplies

  • Basic wreath – I picked this stick wreath up at Walmart for just a few dollars
  • Scraps of paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

Instructions

The first step is to cut out leaves. I printed a picture of a leaf, and then used that as a template. You could also use a leaf-shaped cookie cutter, trace around a leaf from outside, or just wing it.

Once you have cut out your leaves, you need to work on your flowers.

I used a selection of glasses and bowls to create flowers of different sizes. Begin by tracing around a round object, and then cutting out your circles.

Turn your circles over, draw a circle, and then cut along the lines (see the image below).

Follow these visual instructions to make paper flowers at home.

Starting from the outside edge of the spiral begin rolling your paper until you read the end of the spiral. Carefully unwind the roll just a little gradually separating the ‘petals’ of the flower. Add a little glue to the bottom and attach the petals to the center of the spiral which will act as your base.
