Last week I had the opportunity to get together with Pepperidge Farm and a few friends to learn about some of the simple ways you can serve delicious, quick, and easy food for your game day celebrations using Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry.
With everything from meals, to appetizers and desserts I’ve got quite the round-up for you, but first let me share my very own recipe for beef and bacon meat pies.
In Australia, a traditional football food (yes for Aussie Rules football) is meat pies. Unlike chicken pot pies in the U.S. meat pies are filled with beef and you can get them with an assortment of other fillings too, they can become quite complex and have become more gourmet over the years, but the football tradition is still the standard meat pie.
Meat pies in general are about the size of a pot pie, but for parties we like to do party sized pies (or party pies as we call them). Party pies are much smaller, more like an appetizer or finger food. We serve them with tomato sauce (or ketchup) and if you are a true Aussie you peel the top layer of puff pastry off the pie, add the sauce to the filling and then eat them separately. Which amused my boyfriend to no end when I was showing him how to eat a pie Aussie style when I made these – he already thinks we are a crazy lot so this didn’t exactly help my cause of convincing him we aren’t.
