I've been wanting to try my hand at making cake pops for the longest time but had no idea how to even begin.  Coincidentally I was sent a copy of Crazy for Cake Pops recently to have a look at.

So I made these.

Crazy for Cake Pops

I think they turned out pretty cute, for my first try.  A couple of them developed cracks.  I'll have to master the art of how to prevent this.  The instructions in the book were so easy to follow though, and I think I may become slightly addicted to making these now that I know how.  I need to try a few more from the book though before I venture out on my own and come up with some new styles.

So cute Tonya!! They turned out awesome. Great job. I’ve made them before but always wonder how they get them completely round without the flat bottom. I’m sure there’s away.

Hmm, I'm not sure, my plan was to make this with the flat bottom so they would sit without toppling over – unlike most cake pops these were made to sit on a surface.  I'm going to guess that you need to use a foam block or something to put the sticks in so they aren't resting on a surface, but I'm yet to give it a go.

I took a styrofoam block and pre-poked holes in it to stand up my cake pops. I round the bottoms a bit before dipping to help round them out again. Also from research it seems it’s when they are too cold and then dipped they warm up and then crack. I keep finding opposite opinions on this. Going to test out a couple theories and I’ll let you know what I find. I did pumpkin ones for Tyler’s party too. Love the jack o lantern faces on yours!

Let me know how it goes when you test the theories.  I think my next batch I might try bringing them to room temperature before dipping them and see if that helps.
