Have I told you our big news?  No!

WE BOUGHT A HOUSE! And in honor of such an occasion I made a little cake to celebrate.

Of course I have a couple of cake decorating tips for you:

Tip 1:

I made this cake using First Street Moist Chocolate Cake Mix – which you may not know but I used this same cake mix to bake the twins Teddy Bear Picnic cake for their birthday last year.  I love it because there is enough mix to make a sheet cake.  Remember Martha’s golden rule though when making cakes: substitute the oil for apple sauce.  Trust me, it makes the cake taste so much better.

Tip 2:

Use vinyl disposable gloves when mixing fondant colors.  You can wash them in between mixing the different colors.

So cute! I’ve only tried fondant once before when making a ballerina cake for my daughter’s 4th birthday. I still have nightmares about it. But I love the First Street cake mix – just used it for a Hogwart’s castle birthday cake 🙂

I'm dying to try my hand at making marshmallow fondant.  I want to see that Hogwart's cake.  Did you blog about it?  I need to swing by and check :).
