If you are looking for a simple 4th of July party drink for your upcoming celebration, I've got the perfect one for you.
I'm also going to show you how you can take one of your kids old toys and turn it into a test tube beverage holder, perfect for parties.
This project has been on my to-do list for a couple of years. I know, some may think that my craft room is full of stuff that probably needs to be tossed out, but I swear it all has a reason for being there, sometimes it just takes me a little while to get around to doing the projects I have in mind.
Those of you with kids probably remember the Melissa & Doug Pound-A-Peg toy from when your kids were little. My kids loved that toy, but so did the dog, who ended up chewing chunks off the pegs and carrying them around the house like they were his own personal chew toys. So, when we moved a few years ago I threw all of the pegs away, but couldn't bring myself to part with the stand, I just knew it would come in handy for something ... some day.
And sure enough, it wasn't long before I discovered that the holes were the perfect size for holding test tube drinks for parties. But, it was worn out and ugly and needed a little makeover, which as you can see took me some time to get around to doing.
All that was required was a little sanding, a few coats of white spray paint, a spray finish over the top and it was done ... why it took me so long to get around to it though I'll never know.
- Kool-Aid - I purchased the big 96oz ready-to-drink Tropical Punch bottle from Walmart (which is under $2).
Simply blend the ice with the Kool-Aid in your blender until it's similar to a slushie, but more liquid, less slush, and pour it into the test tubes.
I found these great pinwheels at Michael's craft store for $1.99 a packet. On the back of the little pinwheel is a plastic clip, so I slid the wood pick out and popped a straw in.
These do actually spin when outside and in the test tube. So fun.
The 96oz Kool-Aid ready-to-drink bottles are available at Walmart.
