Here’s how to make a sweet whimsical DIY fairy garden in a pot. We show you how to grow plants, make a DIY fairy house, and more.
One of our friends runs Bountiful Blooms flower farm and she recently hosted a fairy garden workshop at Springhill Winery. Who can resist wine and fairy gardens? Not us, that’s for sure. I thought it would make the perfect daytime date idea for us to build a fairy garden together to put on our front porch.
DIY fairy garden in a pot
What I love most about this fairy garden is the tiny fairy house we made using a plastic cup, cardboard box scraps, dried leaves, and sand.
Supplies
- Pot for plants
- Potting soil
- Plants
- Plastic cup
- Cardboard – an old box works great for this
- Leaves
- Sand
- Any other decorative items you want to add to your fairy garden
- Hot glue
- Mod Podge and a brush
Instructions
The first thing you need to do is make sure you have a drainage hole in the bottom of your pot for when you water the plants.
Once you have that add potting soil to your pot, stopping when there are about two inches left at the top of the pot.
Let’s make the fairy house next. You will need a plastic cup, cardboard, Mod Podge, hot glue, sand, and leaves.
Cut out a round circle of cardboard that’s larger than the bottom of the plastic cup. Cut a slit into the center and fold it over so that the cardboard has a slight cone shape. Glue the overlap together using hot glue, and then glue it to the bottom of the cup (see image above).
Brush Mod Podge all over the cup and very carefully pat sand all over the cup until it’s covered.
Using hot glue attach leaves to the roof, and then add one for the door too.
Once your house is built, it’s time to assemble your fairy garden in the pot. Begin with deciding where your house will be placed. Surround it with plants, and then add whatever else you gathered including rocks, moss, and a fairy.
