I think I'm well past the days of partying all night and ringing in the new year with more than a few champagnes under my belt.

This year it was very low key and very kid friendly.

We started the day enjoying breakfast with some of my beautiful friends.  The same friends that I had breakfast with most mornings after school drop-offs for over a year before we moved to the States.   It was so great to be re-united again, if only for a day.

And it was a hot day.  40 degrees (that's 104 for my American friends).   Not to be beaten by the heat though we hit the beach in Albert Park. where there is a kiosk, beach playground, bathrooms and just over the street a Fish and Chip shop (for dinner).  We knew most of the crowds would be in the city and along the river where the main New Years Eve celebrations were taking place, and sure enough we found a spot where there were few people, we could play, watch the sunset, enjoy dinner and we could still see the fireworks.  And we didn't even have to stay up until midnight for them.  The city set fireworks off at a kid friendly time of about 9:15pm so that children could still enjoy them without having to stay up and then they set them off again at midnight.  It was perfect.  We were all home and in bed by 11pm.  I missed midnight.  Although I'm not quite sure how, between the heat and the rockin' party happening next door.

Your pics are so beautiful! We actually planned a night in with the boys and a Harry Potter marathon. We still did it, but I rang in the New Year sick…ugh.:) Still thankful for a fresh start with the new year, though. 2011 is going to be a great year!
