The cushions on our sofa were in DESPERATE need of updating. You have no idea just how desperate I was to get rid of the old ones. The dog had eaten holes in them. The twins had spread toothpaste over them (which by the way bleached the fabric in patches). They were literally falling apart and the stuffing was constantly coming out of them.
I won't even show you how bad they were, it's far too embarrassing.
They have now been made-over.
I absolutely adore the pretty patterns.
Can you believe these were made out of napkins. I'm giddy. I found some gorgeous large square napkins at Cost Plus World Market, some were even on clearance for 98c each. I had a $10 gift card for the store so I purchased 8 napkins – the reverse are all plain and in different colors. I then headed to Beverly's where I picked up some plain white muslin and some frou frou edging for each cushion. If you look closely you can see that each one has a completely different edge – one in fabric, one lace, one with baubles and the other is a gorgeous red edging.
I used the stuffing from the old cushions, but because I was using a lighter weight fabric (napkins) to make the cushions, I cut out large muslin squares and stitched them together to make a cover to hold the stuffing.
The napkins already had lovely seams, so it was just a matter of sewing the edging on and then stitching the back and front together.
