If you’ve been to Kentucky, then chances are you’ve tried a Kentucky Hot Brown. Also known as the Louisville Hot Brown, this dish was created at the Brown Hotel in Louisville in 1926.
For those who have never tried the Hot Brown, it is a baked open-faced sandwich with turkey breast, bacon, and Roma tomatoes, with a creamy Mornay sauce. There have been variations of this dish over the years that include different cheeses and garnishes. The original recipe though can be found on The Brown Hotel’s website.
The holidays this year are going to be different than those of years past. Being close to family and friends in celebration and thanks has never been more important.
So, we decided to make our own variation of this local dish for the holidays that transforms the Kentucky Hot Brown into a delicious dip. We added it to a charcuterie board and surrounded it with some of the delicious toppings used over the years such as pimentos, tomatoes, mushrooms, and Texas toast for dipping.
How to make a Kentucky Hot Brown dip
Whether you make this dip for holiday entertaining, a Friendsgiving party, Christmas with family, or are looking for a way to use up leftover turkey, then this dish is perfect!
Ingredients
You can find the full ingredients list in the recipe card below. I started with some delicious Kraft Heinz® products from Walmart including:
- Philadelphia® Original Cream Cheese, 8 ounce Box
- Kraft® Sharp Cheddar Shredded Cheese, 16 ounce Bag
- Oscar Mayer® Naturally Hardwood Smoked Bacon, 16 ounces
You can find all of the ingredients to make this delicious dish at Walmart. It’s your one-stop-shop this holiday season. It’s also the closest place for us to do our food shopping here in Kentucky.
Instructions
Begin by cooking your turkey breast (if you aren’t using leftovers) and cooking the bacon. Set them aside to cool, and then chop your ingredients into pieces perfect for dipping.
Combine all of your dip ingredients (setting aside some of the cheese and bacon) into a bowl.
Lightly spray a casserole dish, pour your dip ingredients in, and then top with remaining cheese and bacon. Bake in a 375F preheated oven for 20 minutes.
While your dip is baking, prepare your grazing board items so that you can serve your dip still warm.
Here are a few ideas of foods to include on your grazing board.
- Texas Toast
- mushrooms
- snow peas
- tomatoes
- crackers
- dried fruit
- grapes
- green bean chips
- pimentos
- pretzel mix
- nuts
