DIY gift card holders are a personal and thoughtful way to gift a card. These envelopes are made out of felt and scrap fabric.
DIY gift card holders
I made these gift card holders for teachers. I wanted to make the gift a little more personal and show them that I’d put some thought into their gift.
Supplies
- Felt
- Patterned fabric (scraps are perfect for this)
- Button
- Embroidery thread
- Needle
- Scissors
Instructions
Measure your gift card. Double the height and add an extra 1/4 inch (minimum) to all sides to allow for seams. Add a triangle to one end of the felt before you cut it out.
Cut out the scrap fabric just a little bit smaller all the way around (as you can see in the image above).
Using embroidery thread stitch the triangle section of the fabric and felt together. Fold up the bottom of the gift card holder and sew the side seams. Sew along the fabric to the felt along the top section too, making sure you can still put your card inside the envelope.
Cut a small slit in the triangle and hand-sew around it to prevent fraying. Fold it over so you know where to attach a button and then sew that into place too.
